The Power of Hope: God's Not Finished

There is something so powerful in reading or hearing someone's story of how the Lord intervened in their lives. Why is this so? The author of Revelation states that we overcome by the blood of the Lamb and our own testimony (12:11). Our faith is triggered when we remember what the Lord has done for us, which then causes hope to flourish. However, what happens when life diminishes our memory of the Lord's saving grace and loving mercies?

We must read biblical stories to reflect on the character of the Lord and His heart for His people. This lifts our eyes up from the circumstances that distract us and places them squarely back on Jesus. To further encourage ourselves, we need to listen to others who have experienced the transforming power of Christ.

Peggy Lakin was driving home from work without any inclination that her husband lay in a hospital bed on the brink of death. Her husband had suffered other injuries when working around the home, so when her mother met her at the front door and instructed her to get to the hospital immediately, there was no crisis instinct. However, when she arrived at the hospital, she knew the situation was life or death.

Peggy shared about singing and worshipping in the surgery waiting room and the doctor mentioning he prayed before surgery. But the most powerful moment came when she stood at the end of her husband's bed. "I began speaking life to his lifeless body."

Peggy also shared that she and her husband loved to restore old things. They had a saying of "it's not finished yet" when they would take on new projects. So as Peggy sat, day in and day out, at the hospital or rehab center, she would also often say to her husband, "God is not finished yet. You cannot give up!"

I want to encourage you today that God is not finished in your life! As long as you have breath, then the possibility of divine intervention exists. What do you need to speak life to? We can all do this. Right now, you can speak to the dead things in your life and speak life back into them. We have the power of life and death in the words we say. Peggy chose to only speak life in this moment and the Lord met her husband while he lay with severe brain trauma on the brink of death. Want to hear a story that will ignite your faith, restore hope and increase passion for Jesus? Then listen to this podcast episode of Peggy's story.
