The old humanity, with its evil tendencies, was crucified. Previous ways of thinking and behavior were exterminated. We now part company with worldly principles and actions. Sin's dominion is broken.
Through Jesus, believers are no longer a slave to old habits and attitudes. We're a new creation (see 2 Cor. 5:17).
Our identity comes through identification.
