Max Lucado’s Before Amen Prayer Challenge sees success

More than 100,000 people have signed up to take the Before Amen Prayer Challenge since its September launch. Created by pastor and best-selling author Max Lucado, the Before Amen Prayer Challenge is simple: Pray four minutes every day for four weeks.

Each person who signs up online for the challenge receives a free e-book, Pocket Prayers: 40 Simple Prayers That Bring Peace and Rest by Lucado and his daughter, Andrea Lucado.

In the challenge, Lucado suggests that anyone struggling to pray daily should use his "Pocket Prayer," as outlined in his best-selling book Before Amen: The Power of A Simple Prayer (Thomas Nelson, October).

The pocket prayer is "You are good. I need help. They need help. Thank you. In Jesus' name, Amen."

"Prayer can be intimidating and often overwhelming," said David Moberg, senior vice president and group publisher, HarperCollins Christian Publishing. "Max Lucado reminds us that prayer was never meant to be complicated, and even a few minutes in prayer are powerful."

Lucado believes sometimes we make prayer too difficult.

"Talking with God doesn't have to be complicated or complex," he said. "The power isn't in the words we pray, but in the one who hears them. Four minutes a day for four weeks will leave you forever changed."

In addition to the hardcover book, Integrity Music has released Before Amen: A Worship Collection, a musical companion album with 13 worship tracks from artists including Michael W. Smith, Darlene Zschech, Paul Baloche, All Sons & Daughters and Planetshakers. Lucado is featured on two spoken-word tracks.
