It's Time To Smash Your Idols

Worshiping false Gods isn't the only expression of idolatry. Anything becomes an idol when we use it to fill the void within ourselves.

Knowing God's truth is an absolute necessity in our journey to freedom, but so is our truthfulness. Psalm 51:6 says God desires "truth in the inner parts" (NIV). God's truth and our truthfulness are both needed in order to gain complete freedom in Christ.

I mention the importance of honesty because I may be about to get more honest than some of you can stand. I ask you to consider what I have to say: Many Christians are not satisfied with Jesus. read more

True Worshipers

I have been singing and performing since I was 10 years old, and I can still remember going to my first music practice at my church. As a brand-new Christian, I was very excited about meeting Christian musicians and playing Christian music. I knew it was going to be just like heaven.

When I arrived at the church I noticed that even though the people were beautiful, when they started to play and sing, everyone became very serious. I tried not to laugh or enjoy myself too much so they wouldn't think I wasn't spiritual.

Eventually, I became a "church singer." It took years for God to teach me to be myself.

Don't let this be your story. You should never be ashamed of the things that make you unique. Just be available for God to use you.

God created us as individuals--special and unique--to accomplish His purposes. When we worship Him, we can hear the Holy Spirit speaking to us because worship opens our hearts to receive.

Jesus said, "'True worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks'" (John 4:23, NIV). If you want to be a true worshiper, be yourself when you worship God. read more

Worship Is More Than A Song

WE DON'T HAVE TO BE GREAT SINGERS TO WORSHIP GOD; WE JUST HAVE TO GIVE OURSELVES TOTALLY TO HIM.

Worshiping our Savior, Jesus Christ, is fundamental to living a faith-filled, Spirit-led Christian life. There are multiple worship methods, plans and styles that vary among cultures and geographic boundaries.

The Lord enjoys the diversity of sincere worship when expressed through His Spirit and in truth. Worship should be a way of life, with many facets of expression. read more

The Heart of a Worshiper

In order to experience worship in Spirit and Truth, we must surrender our hearts completely to the Lordship of Christ.

Shortly after I was healed from a life-threatening disease and baptized in the Holy Spirit, I was asked to minister in a Pentecostal church. There I was introduced to a dimension of worship that I had never experienced before.

Sitting on the platform in my studied dignity as a former Methodist professor, observing the worship service that was so different from that to which I was accustomed, I was fascinated by all that was going on around me. Though their worship expression seemed disorderly--almost irreverent--in comparison with Methodist tradition, I could tell these people deeply loved the Lord and were expressing their love to Him. read more

Never Stop Believing

IN AN ENVIRONMENT OF PRAYER AND WORSHIP, GOD'S PROMISES TO US BECOME REAL. THROUGH THEM WE ARE STRENGTHENED TO ENTRUST ALL OUR NEEDS TO HIM.

The battle of the Christian life has always been not just to believe, but to keep on believing. This is how we grow strong in faith and see the actual fulfillment of God's promises in our lives.

Today we tend to soft-pedal unbelief as little more than a common weakness. But God takes no such easygoing approach (see Heb. 10:35-39). read more

Our True Calling

Above every duty, our first obligation to God is worship.

We use the term "calling of God" in the church to describe our burdens to preach or teach, give our lives to missions or to children's work or follow other worthwhile pursuits that will help people come into the kingdom of God. We have been taught that as we fulfill the calling of God on our lives, we will find fulfillment and be successful in life. However, this narrow definition of calling does not encompass the scriptural understanding of personal destiny that results in living a dynamic life.

Have you ever considered why you were called to be a child of God? Was it to become a powerful preacher of the gospel, to be a missionary in a far-off country or to be a good husband and father or wife and mother? read more

True Worship

For the last 17 years, I've been on a journey to learn all I can about what true worship really is. I studied, taught and listened to others teach about worship.

And do you know what I have learned? Worship is not complicated. On the contrary, it is quite simple.

Worship starts with God's love. As we receive His love for us, we respond to that love. Our relationship with Him must be based on the understanding that "God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life" (John 3:16, NKJV). read more
