Return to the River

If you were once in the river of God but have gotten out, you can go back. Here's how.

Stephen Thompson played defensive tackle for the New York Jets during the heyday of Joe Namath. He even has a Super Bowl ring and flashes it occasionally if someone tries to intimidate him. But tackling the problem of staying in the river of God--the current flow of His Spirit-- proved to be an even greater challenge than tackling football superstars.

After his days as a pro football player Stephen and his wife, Starla, entered the ministry. He became pastor of a church near Seattle in the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel, a Pentecostal denomination founded by Aimee Semple McPherson, the famous woman evangelist of the early 1900s. The denomination's Pentecostal roots, however, did not seem to prepare the members of Stephen's church for the current move of the Spirit. read more

Have the Mind of Christ

The best defense against believing the lies of the devil is learning to think God's thoughts.

One of the instructions given to us in the Bible is to have the mind of Christ. We read in Philippians 2:5, "Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus" (NKJV). Have you ever wondered how this is possible?

Certainly, we know how important it is. God created the human mind as a combination of conscious and unconscious processes (thoughts) of the brain that direct our mental and physical behavior. Our thoughts influence our actions. It follows, then, that if we want to act like Christ, we must also think like Him. read more

Lord, Give Us New Hearts

It's time to seek the Lord as never before. As we do, our consecration and devotion will intensify, and we will become remarkably more like him.

Right before we held our conference in Chicago in 2000, God began to get my attention on the subject of the new heart. We were planning to have the event in a beautiful church that seats 4,500 people; it was going to be impressive.

But a few days before the conference, we ran into difficulties and had to switch to another facility. This one was not as big and was more difficult for the people to get to. read more

Finding Rest For Your Soul

Even in the maddening rush of the 21st Century there is stillness available in Christ every day.

Jesus said: "'Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light'" (Matt. 11:2830, NIV).

Are you weary and burdened? The Father wants to lead you into His rest, just as He led Israel out of Egypt and into the land of rest (see Jer. 31:32). read more

God Created Your For Love

DON'T LET PAST NEGATIVE EXPERIENCES KEEP YOU FROM EXPRESSING THE FEMININE ASPECT OF YOUR NATURE. GOD MADE YOU TO ENJOY GIVING AND RECEIVING LOVE.

For 6,000 years, Satan has had a special hatred for women. He has deceived many of them into believing that love and intimacy are the source of much of their pain.

How did they come to this conclusion? Those who were supposed to express love to them in their youth took from them instead of nurturing them with compassionate love. read more

The Friendship of Christ

MOST CHRISTIANS ENJOY THE FELLOWSHIP OF OTHER BELIEVERS. BUT ARE WE TRULY AWARE OF WHAT A FRIEND WE HAVE IN JESUS?

The sweetest bliss of rational beings comes from friendship. Nothing can take its place. Without it, all things else leave in us an aching void. We must both love and be loved, or be wretched.

Friendship implies two or more persons, and love on both sides. There may be love without friendship, but there can be no friendship without love. There must be reciprocity of affection. read more

Becoming One With God

GOD'S GOAL FOR EVERY BELIEVER IS ONENESS WITH HIM. TO REACH IT, WE MUST TAKE ON THE CHARACTER OF CHRIST.

All the dealings God has with the soul of the believer are to bring it into oneness with Himself, that the final prayer Jesus prayed before He died may be fulfilled: "That they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us....I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me" (John 17:21-23, NKJV).

This divine union was the glorious purpose in the heart of God for His people before the foundation of the world. It was accomplished in the death of Christ. It has been made known by the Scriptures. It is realized as an actual experience by many of God's dear children. read more
