Don't Be Afraid to Step Out

Catherine Booth, along with her husband, William, made great gains for the kingdom of God. By the Spirit, they were empowered to fulfill their calling--even though it meant going against the tide of conventional religion. read more

God Has The Answer To Depression

Many women experience periods of sadness due to loss, frustration or chronic health problems. At times we can initiate our own depression through self-pity, jealousy and unrealistic expectations. Regardless of the source, God's desire for us is freedom. We need not be subject to the power of the enemy. read more

Whatever Happened to the Ten Commandments?

In our pluralistic society, we're often told that everything is "relative." However, this is not what the Bible teaches. The Ten Commandments are not the rules of a vengeful dictator but rather the guiding principles of a loving Father.

Jesus came to fulfill the law, not to abolish it. As believers, we must hold to Biblical standards and return these timeless ideals to their rightful places in our lives. read more

Sing of His Mighty Deeds

No matter what the pressing needs may be, when by an act of our faith we open our mouths to praise God for who He is, there is set in motion an assault against the enemy. The enemy hates our praise because it is a reminder to him of all that he forfeited through his rebellion.

Praising God changes the atmosphere outwardly and inwardly. Exalting His name is an act of faith to which He readily responds. Fear and dread are uprooted and replaced with hope and an expectation of deliverance. read more

Pursuing His Presence

What is true regarding intimacy in marriage is also true in our relationship with God. It doesn't happen without effort. In forming Adam with His hands and breathing life into him, God demonstrated His desire for intimate involvement with mankind.

After the man and woman fell, God's plan of redemption was instituted to bring them back to the relationship God intended from the beginning. read more

God's Invisible Messengers

Have you ever wondered about the part angels play in your daily life? Many Christians believe God sends them only to "special" people, such as those with large ministries, or on "special" occasions, such as when a person is in danger. The truth is that angels have a ministry to all the saints of God--including you and me--to strengthen, comfort and help us in our ministries.

Throughout the Bible--Old and New Testaments--there are accounts of the involvement of angels in the lives of God's people. In fact, angel appearances were so common among the early Christians that it was easier for Jesus' disciples to believe that Peter's angel was knocking at the door of the place where they were praying than that Peter had been released from prison! (See Acts 12:12-17.) Here are just a few examples of angelic activity recorded in Scripture: read more

Celebrating Diversity in Worship

Unity is all about discerning the body of Christ in all its expressions. Neither cultural preferences nor personal tastes should prohibit our embracing other brothers and sisters in Christ.

Disunity undermines our witness to the world, to unbelievers who cannot look past our lack of understanding and acceptance of one another. It is critical to the fulfillment of the Great

Commission that we begin to be more accepting and endorsing of one another based on the wealth of truth we have in common. read more

Moving Beyond Survival to Revival

Knowing how to survive in the wilderness is vital, but as the Israelites demonstrated, it is equally important to know how to come out of the wilderness.

When the time is right, according to God's plan, we must leave behind our kinship with lack and struggle in order to walk into a place of vision and provision. Survival skills that may have served us well when battling the desperate conditions of the desert will hinder our entering the place of promise to which God is leading us. read more

What Happened to Eve?

Eve's disobedience and subsequent banishment from the presence of God was an interruption in her destiny. But immediately following the first couple's fall, God implemented a plan that would restore them to their intended purpose.

Referring to God's promise of a Messiah in Gen. 3:15, Dr. Freda Lindsay wrote: "The woman, first scarred by sin, is selected to be the one first promised to become an instrument of God's redemptive working" (Spirit-Filled Life Bible).

This is a picture of restoration. In Jesus Christ, we recover our innocence and our ability to reproduce the life of God in others through Holy Spirit-anointed ministry. read more

Moments of Holy Visitation

Knowing God stimulates our hunger to know Him more. We will increase in wisdom and anointing to the degree that we cultivate an atmosphere that always yearns for and welcomes His presence. In The Pursuit of God, A.W. Tozer wrote, "Acute desire must be present or there will be no manifestation of Christ to His people. He waits to be wanted. Too bad that with many of us He waits so long, so very long, in vain."

Each of us should live expecting that God can, at any moment, break through and change us forever. In moments of visitation, heaven seems nearer, and God's truth becomes more real.

The Lord desires, and is certainly worthy of, first place in our lives. It's amazing how much of Himself He will pour into us if we are faithful to give Him time and opportunity. read more

Why Saints Fall Away from God

No matter how knowledgeable they may be, believers who toy with carnal temptations are vulnerable to deception and capable of being led away from their relationship with God.

Pride--something with which we're all tempted--presents us with a distorted picture of self-sufficiency. If we embrace this idea, then we will be drawn away from a humble dependency on God.

Whatever the temptation, it has to find a place of weakness in us. The allurement must serve some purpose in order to lead us into deception. This is why it is essential to have our hearts continually cleansed by the Holy Spirit. read more

Is There Bitterness in Your House?

There are countless reasons why a woman of God would be tempted to harbor bitterness. However, none of them are good. Certainly, none are worth the cost of forfeiting the peace and purpose of God or interrupting the flow of His Spirit.

Scripture says a root of bitterness "defiles many." It may begin in one person's heart, but it takes its toll on others with whom that one associates. It is infectious and takes advantage of the gift and privilege we have of influencing people to walk after God's ways.

If unchecked, bitterness will destroy your life and future ministry. It frustrates our progress from glory to glory. read more

Acquaint Yourself with His Kindness

Every difficulty we experience is an opportunity to learn of God's mercy. It is a chance for us to discover all over again that God is good; that He is good "all the time."

The Lord is tender toward us when we struggle, and we will find throughout life that when in earnest we call upon the name of the Lord, He has bountiful mercies upon which we can drawmore than we could ever imagine. read more

Praying with Prophetic Power

As God's representatives on Earth, we have the authority to speak for Him. When we speak under the leading of the Holy Spirit, we speak as His mouthpiece.
During strategic times, the Lord will prompt us to pray very specific prayers that will bring His will to bear in a given situation.

When God the Father makes known His intentions to Jesus, Jesus makes them known to the church. Then the church has the responsibility to make God's intentions known to the evil powers through proclamations of His will. The result of this chain of events is spiritual breakthrough. read more

God's Invisible Messengers

God has called us to the kind of supernatural life that Jesus lived. At the beginning of the New Testament church, God confirmed His Word with signs following, and the presence and words of angels further established the gospel in the Earth.

The book of Acts is replete with angelic visitations. A case in point would be the incident involving Peter in Acts 12. The believers who were gathered for prayer were skeptical about Peter's being released from prison, choosing to believe that his angel rather than Peter was at the door.

If God hasn't changed we have no reason to believe that angels were at work only in biblical times. Many would testify they are among us even now. read more

Are Your Words Loaded With The Spirit?

How we long to speak words that penetrate the hearts of those who hear them! Often, we try to impart reason and wisdom to family members and friends and sense that we've not made a lasting impact.

George D. Watson wrote, "Words are chariots in which the quality of the heart and mind ride forth to other souls." If this is so, we would do well to desire closer fellowship with Jesus, so that our conversation would be bathed with the life of His Spirit.

We speak forth out of the abundance of our heart's contents. The more we are filled with Christ's Spirit, the more our words take on His qualities. read more

Keep Your Eyes On The Mountaintop

Joseph's life from the very beginning indicated great favor and potential. He was the beloved son of his father, Jacob, and was chosen by God for a great work.

Before Joseph understood the magnitude of his dreams, God was at work in him, fashioning his character into that of a man to whom great responsibility could be entrusted. While undergoing this process, Joseph had to keep his focus, or he never would have seen the dream fulfilled.

Eventually, his perseverance paid off when God made him the guardian of His plan to rescue a nation. read more

How You Can Get God's Attention

A worshiping woman is a dangerous woman because she commands the notice of God.The woman in Luke 7 had overcome shame, guilt and people's disapproval in order to have an audience with Jesus.

She was not intimidated, but rather her tragic past gave her even more cause to rejoice in His restoration. She who had been forgiven much poured out her love on the Master as no one else had.

Her reckless praise angered some, but it confirmed her deliverance and exposed the evil motives of those who were looking on as she worshiped God. Her sacrifice also won her a place of honor in biblical history. read more

Never Stop Believing

God's commands cannot be grasped apart from His gracious promises. When we fail to appropriate the greater grace of God to fulfill His will, we open the door to tolerating unbelief, which is unacceptable to God.

When we choose to believe them, God's promises compel us to respond toward the Lord's commands in love and faithful obedience. His promises have the ability to enable us to "press on." Jim Cymbala wrote: "It is not in the nature of the 'Thou shalts' and 'Thou shalt nots' to draw help from God. It is the ministry of His gracious promises to do that."

Placing our faith in circumstances rather than in God's promises puts us at risk of rebellion, for if we don't believe Him, we won't obey Him. read more
