The Posture That Pleases God

What a solemn thought, that our love for God will be measured by our everyday contact with men and the love it displays; and that our love for God will be found to be a delusion except as its truth is proved in standing the test of daily life with our fellow men!

It is even so with our humility. It is easy to think we humble ourselves before God, but humility toward men will be the only sufficient proof that our humility before God is real—that humility has taken up residence in us and become our very nature—that we actually, like Christ, have made ourselves of no reputation. When in the presence of God lowliness of heart has become not a posture in which we pray to Him but the very spirit of our life, it will manifest itself in all our bearing toward others. read more

Where Is the River of Revival Taking Us?

This season of the outpouring of the Spirit is bringing with it exciting new glimpses of the kingdom. With that comes a renewed passion to know God and to make Him known. As we enjoy the freedom to swim in the river of our Lord's presence, we sense a greater power and authority to pursue His purposes. Personal renewal fuels our desire for fruitfulness in preparation for the coming harvest.

How Do I Know When It's God Speaking?

You and I are living in a day when we need to be certain that God is directing our lives. We get His answers for the situations in our lives when the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of truth, speaks into our spirits and transmits the "overcoming" victory of Jesus.

If you want to clearly hear the voice of the Lord, you must create an atmosphere for the Holy Spirit to talk to you. You must also develop your listening abilities so that you are able to distinguish among all the competing voices in the earth. This is essential for you to live a godly life—a life of victory. read more

Faith That Conquers Cancer

In 1997, doctors diagnosed Ruby Holland Hutchins with Pulmonary Sarcoidosis and three years later told her she had stage four lung cancer. She was given three months to live. But when the itinerant preacher and single mom put her faith into action, she said the Lord healed her and doctors declared her cancer free. read more

Freed From the Curse

Three of my four siblings died a premature death. My sister, Evelyn, died of complications related to sugar diabetes at age 48. My brother, John David, died of a heart attack at 44. My brother, Carl, passed away at 58, also from a heart attack.

After the first two went to be with the Lord, I developed health problems similar to those they had experienced—blood sugar imbalances and heart irregularities. I began to wonder what was going on. read more

Straining to Be Perfect

I love nice clothes, so I noticed her right away. Her clothes were casual but beautiful: crisply ironed khaki slacks, a print shirt and a light sweater. Everything, even her belt and shoes, was perfectly coordinated—just right for watching an afternoon soccer game.

At that moment, our sons were racing down the field in mad pursuit of the ball, trying to score a goal for Faith Christian School. As they neared the goal, the other team sent the ball back up the field.

"Oh, Ben!" I heard her sigh in disgust. I turned to look at her. Were we watching the same game? I hadn't seen her son do anything wrong. read more

What Not to Wear

Remember several years ago when Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake were performing at the Super Bowl Half-Time Show, and he ripped off her costume exposing her chest to nearly 90 million viewers?

The performance caused uproar in the public arena over indecency on TV, and led to bills being passed increasing fines against broadcasters that violate decency standards. But despite federal regulations, the push to saturate our kids' minds with sexually explicit content and products is alive and well in our culture. read more

What Are You Hiding in Your Heart?

The apostle Paul makes it clear that in every action we perform our intention should be to glorify God: "Whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God" (1 Cor. 10:31, NKJV). When we observe this rule, every action of nature becomes religious, and a meal is as much an act of worship as is an act of prayer—and shall have its reward in its proportion. By God's grace, these works of nature are capable of becoming acts of virtue, so that throughout our lives we may serve the Lord. read more

Praise Him in the Storm

Circumstances do not change the goodness and faithfulness of God. He is always worthy of our praises. When we're in the valley, our thanksgiving lifts us into heavenly places and enlarges the vision of who our God is. The greater our sacrifice of praise, the greater will be our joy and assurance of victory.

They Can Tell You've Been With Jesus

Years ago while speaking to a group of new Christians, I noticed a beautiful, young, blonde girl across the room. I flipped out! I had never felt such intense emotions as those that filled me when I gazed across the room at Diane, the girl who was to become my wife. On our first date I was amazed that she seemed to share my feelings, and we became engaged after just one date.

My deep love for Diane and my desire to be with her helped me understand the love Christ feels for His bride. The prayer He prayed just before His death, recorded in John 17, is especially revealing. He said, "Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am" (v. 24, NKJV). Here was my Lord, only hours before His agonizing death on Calvary, crying out to the Father with intense cravings for His bride—for me!

He was consumed with love for His bride and longed to have her with Him for eternity. read more
