Iranian President Determined to Controvert Jewish Holocaust, Destroy Israel

December 18, 2006

In a speech addressed to the international conference of World Vision on the Holocaust gathered in Tehran last week, Iranian President Mahmoud Amadinejad said Israel will soon “vanish and humanity will be liberated,” the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported.

Comparing his future vision of the Jewish nation’s collapse with the former Soviet Union, he also called on Western nations to not “disturb members” of the team on the Holocaust conference from Tehran who are on a “fact-finding mission.” The Middle East conflict will end when the “Holocaust’s truth is ruled out,” he said, according to the IRNA.

Major world powers responded with indignation. “The gathering of Holocaust deniers in Tehran is an affront to the entire civilized world,” said an official statement from the U.S. White House.

“On behalf of the government of Canada, I want to condemn, in the strongest terms, this latest example of anti-Israeli and racist statements from the president of Iran,” said Prime Minister Stephen Harper in a report by Canada’s CBC News.

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, who was meeting with German officials in Berlin at the time, called the incident “a sick phenomenon.”

“We have learned and memorized the lesson [of the Holocaust]; the week and defenceless are doomed,” he said. “Doomed are they who do not believe those who threaten to eradicate them,” CBC News reported.

“We absolutely reject this,” said German Chancellor Angela Merkel of the Iranian president’s determination to disavow the systematic slaughter of millions of Jews. “Germany will never accept this and will act against it with all the means that we have,” she said, according to the Associated Press (AP).

Russia’s foreign ministry also condemned the conference of Holocaust-deniers in saying Moscow opposed “the concealment of the truth about the monstrous crimes of the Nazis,” the AP reported.
