When Becoming Nothing Is an Improvement

francisfrangipanefrontpage

In the beginning, the earth was formless and void, but that did not deter the Almighty. He looked into the fathomless depth of its darkness and concluded, "All it needs is light!" Likewise, in the beginning of our spiritual lives, we also are "formless and void" and God, just as confidently, is still saying, "All they need is a little light!" Remember: it's the Lord's responsibility to create and our responsibility to submit to His creating.

The Lord only needs three things to fashion life. First, He needs a "nothing." The Almighty always begins His great, creative works with a nothing (and this is where we come in!)

Determine to be Determined

Determination will take you where you want to go. High achievers are people who hold onto their goals and their determination. They have learned to overcome discouragement, doubt and other obstacles.

Florence Nightingale spent her life determined to upgrade hospital standards. She would transform a hospital from a “place to die” to a “place of healing and renewed hope.” Although she experienced her own physical sickness and limitations during her adult years, she never quit. Nightingale launched a medical revolution from her bed and lived to the ripe age of 90. Someone once said, "All things are difficult before they become easy." Nightingale pressed through every difficult place with determination. The world is better today because she was determined in her efforts.

What area do you need to press through with great determination? Hold onto your goal and go forward. Let your determination be used to change the world into a better place!

Where are You Going?

Keep your eyes focused on where you are going. Too often we are looking at where we have been rather than where we are going. Thoughts from the past can include grief, guilt, failure and other discouraging memories. We may not be able to change the past but neither do we need to be bound by it.

What are some good memories that you recall from your past? What pleasant, fruitful or enjoyable experiences do you remember? During this season be grateful for the opportunity you have to create more good memories in your future.

John Wayne left a nugget of hope for us concerning our future. He was a major American film actor who personified the American values of his era. Wayne said the following:

Tomorrow is the most important thing in life. It comes to us at midnight very clean. It's perfect when it arrives, and it puts itself in our hands and hopes we've learned something from yesterday.

Learn from the past. Be grateful for the achievements and victories you have experienced. Now, stay focused on your future and move forward!

Transition Into Your Destiny

You and I are at the halfway point in a three-year time of transition.

A prophetic word has come forth that the years 2008 through 2011 are a season of transition. In God's timing, the halfway point can be the most dangerous time during transition. It is a time when some people decide the journey is too difficult. They can't seem to catch the vision for the new place, so they decide to go back to an old place. Others make wrong turns that cause them to take a detour from their destinations.

Decisions made at this juncture will affect the future. They will either lead a person into his destiny or lead him away from what God has purposed for him.

Although there will be some great breakthroughs during transition, we must realize that a breakthrough does not mean the process is complete. The story of the Israelites in their journey through the wilderness reveals this principle. Although they experienced the miracles of the provision of water, food and protection from their enemies, they were still on a journey.

A National Call to Pray and Fast

At the beginning of December my spirit was deeply troubled over the inclusion of federally-funded abortion hidden in the health care bill. I was awakened in the middle of the night with an urgent call to fast and pray. I determined immediately to go to D.C. and fast three days while praying in the Senate chambers during the health care debate on the floor. That morning I gathered my staff to say that I was going to D.C. immediately. It was then that one of our key prophetic men shared a dream he received that very night after praying for insight on the health care bill. This was his dream:
