We Need Commitment

The church today is rife with PowerPoint presentations and trendy names for worship services, with the admirable aim of getting young bodies in the door. However, in an effort to appeal to my generation, I fear that churches are in danger of selling out to transient marketing trends and missing what we’re truly seeking: authenticity and a model of genuine commitment.
The church I ended up attending in college was the only one where people took the time to learn my name. We sang from hymnals, the service started at 10 a.m., and I still attended regularly. Authenticity wins any day.
The church must also encourage my generation to commit to something greater than our easily deleted iTunes play list because the heart of a church is the commitment people have to God and one another. We need to be invited into mentor relationships with people who are older and wiser than us (who—gasp—might even have a few wrinkles), so we can learn from their walk with Christ.
